I mean, it isn't as though there weren't other Probe agents around. What about Arthur Burrell (Medical tech turned Probe Agent) & wasn't there a lady Probe in one of the episodes?? Everyone should have a fair crack of the whip if you want to take this really really seriously. :) Having a favourite Probe is really an indication of the type of story you prefer as much as anything anyway. Just an aside here. A few months back, there was a lot of discussion about someone getting to Hugh O'Brian. Has anyone given a similar thought to Tony Franciscosa or how you spell his name from memory?? I presume he's retired somewhere. That info from Angel Tompkins suggests that he played very much the studio man & did what he was told. It would be interesting to see what he was like outside the role. I am new to the group and was also an 11 year old kid who watched this show regularly. Along with Mission Impossible and Star Trek, it was one of my favourites. I realize now how lucky I was to have actually seen this show, before it dissapeared from the airwaves. Looking back at it, most of the technology put forward in Search is now possible, almost 30 years later. Being interested in electronics projects as I was, Search had a special appeal to me. Like, Oh yeah, theese people on Search really know what they're doing. Sorry for not prewiewing all of the messages posted here, but has anyone ever considered a remake, movie or otherwise? I would be interesed in purchasing VHS copies of episodes, if anyone here does that. That is until the DVD's come out, Regards, Don From: "tomatprobe" Date: Sun Dec 16, 2001 5:43 pm Subject: Search ads I saw Chris' newspaper ads on Search. I've seen the one with the girl before(pretty sure its Thompkins) but with out the girl or the Probe Control background. Great Stuff! I also saw brother Don's picture comparison. The video grabs would be much much better if the video source was clearer. The video grab is just a freeze frame of a poor image full of distortions. But we all have learned to take what we can get and be very grateful for it. (I think I know what Im getting for Christmas!) They think it's a "real" auction. I've seen amusing auctions where two newbies go one dollar over the other ad infinitum until the auction ends. This sounds great for the seller, but usually the "winner" bows out because he suddenly finds that gambling fever got the best of him and/or he doesn't have the money to pay. I have seen items get relisted because of this sort of thing. In this case, it's a pair of sunglasses, which means someone has changed their name, usually because they accumulated too many negatives. In any case, they don't know how to bid. My hope is that they will realize they have bid too much and retract. Beyond that, anything is possible. If it does indeed sell for this high price, the thing to do is try to find another presskit, (preferably off- eBay) since we know now that these items exist. We should also keep our eyes peeled for any SEARCH/PROBE presskits as well. Has anyone ever seen one? More later, Don H. From: "Geoff Willmetts" Date: Thu Dec 20, 2001 7:34 am Subject: Re: [probe_control] presskit Hello everyone. Re: Press-kits. I always had a suspicion that those 6 pictures - John & Bryan have them on the website - were part of a press kit mainly cos they don't really look like a merchandise ploy or even something for the cast to sign. Anyone want to query Angel Tompkins about that?? I wonder if there is any dealer specialising in press kits or have them amongst their stocks. Any of you chaps or chapettes in LA know anywhere to look?? Something else that did occur to me is all the newspaper clippings that have been mentioned here in recent months from the 70s had to have had some information derived from press kits. Compared to some I've read - like for the '6 Million Dollar Man' - 'Search' has come out with a reasonable sense of accuracy. The aforementioned Bionic series described in UK papers as Austin having his head attached to a robot body as an example of bad reporting. Tuning out. I've got an 1" diameter outer ring & base. The real tricky part is a decent magnifying lens at 1/2" diameter. I've got one of those mini-telescopes-cum-microscope tubes - you probably have them over there or something like it - to take apart. An investigation of the lens inside a front door tube thingy revealled 3 lens & no real power on their own. It'll be a lot easier to install the tooth button & neural link if I can have a few volunteers. Have fun.
