You seem to have just recently joined the group (glad you found us! Bet you were also glad to find someone else who remembers!!!) so you may have missed it but there was a message some time back that from the time SEARCH went off U.S. airwaves in 1973 until just fairly recently, Warner Bros. had the SEARCH episodes classified for overseas syndication only. So it doesn't seem very likely TV Land could have run any episodes. The good news is that apparently the legal dispute or whatever the cause was that led to SEARCH being syndicated only overseas has been ironed out because now the episodes are available for domestic syndication, so you could most certainly write to TV Land and bring this to their attention. It's possible that TV Land may have run the PROBE pilot, but seeing their schedule lately, I would guess that their chances of airing the SEARCH episodes are fairly slim. Their current schedule is pretty heavily weighted toward sitcoms, as is most of TV generally any more. The main dramatic show I've noticed on TV Land lately is MCGYVER, and while I did enjoy that show back in the day, I think they could do a whole lot better in terms of variety in their schedules. Increasing public awareness of our favorite Probes, now that the episodes are available to your local TV station, is going to be an uphill battle first because of its age, and the fact that most PDs (Program Directors) want comedy, not drama. Let's face it, a lot of TV station PDs have probably never heard of SEARCH...many probably weren't even born yet when the show was on! The PROBE movie I understand is out of print on VHS, though you can still find a few on Ebay, they are expensive and getting more so. Group members Jim Alexander and Don Harden make dubs available to fellow members, I suggest you contact them. I did and I am now enjoying watching SEARCH for the first time in 30 years. I still love it, it wasn't just some silly thing because I was 11-12! They will charge you a little bit for your time and the wear and wear on their original tapes, but the picture and sound quality is supposed to be better than most SEARCH tapes sold elsewhere (when you can find them, they are not easy to find, the majority of tape traders don't go that far back...) and you will be able to get not only the PROBE movie, but almost the entire SEARCH run (except for the final episode, Ends of the Earth) for a fraction of what you would pay for a PROBE tape on Ebay! It also gives links to cast members and has similar pages for "Name of the Game," which Mystery has run in the past. Does this mean they have access to "Search" but haven't decided to run it? Earlier discussion on this list has favored The Mystery Channel to run "Search" because Mystery runs their shows uncut and without commercials. TVLand would cut the show so badly that it wouldn't really be worth taping, except maybe as an addenda to make more complete the dubs we already have. However, if appearing on TVLand would cause Columbia House to offer uncut versions of "Search" episodes, then that would be worth it to most of us on this list. It would be a dream come true, quite frankly. :-) If these links don't work, you can go to The Mystery Channel home page and find their search engine, either by movie title or actor name. http://www.starzsuperpak.com/se/mystery/index.html www.starzsuperpak.com/se/mystery/title.html?version_id=854462&episode_num=1 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] 2180 From: dmanmetz@... Cutting to the chase, how about Arnold Schwarzenagger running for the governor of California. I wish the big guy the best of luck, but I have to say it kinda reminds of the Bill Bixby character Mark Elliott in episode 9 "The Adonis File". Regular "joe" becomes an American Hero/icon by becoming a Champion Body builder/ Mr. Universe, wins numerous body building competitions, then becomes an actor (not a very good one in my own personal opinion), but the public loves him and becomes a major movie star/icon for the later half of the 20th century. Along the way he marries the perfect wife who just happens to be apart of the United States version of the royle family (The Kennedy's), opens a chain resturant (Planet Hollywood) which is a hit with the public for the first few years before falling off and you have the ingredients for Mark Elliott, I mean Arnold Schwarzenegger. Better call Lockwood to investigate. Oh wait a minute, his secretary hasn't been kidnapped (LOL). Just one reason for the networks to bring back Search. How many did we hear Kuroda yell that phrase at Probe Control every time a Probe was knocked unconscious. Being a Probe is a tough job, but you must meet a certain standard. Among them are to be tall and handsome, own an exotic sports car, Mercedes Benz, Aston Martin, or American Muscle such as a Corvette Stingray will due, have designer suits and sports jackets by Petrocelli, spend up the company money any chance you get, have a beautiful woman assist you on almost every mission and most important............being able to take a blow on the head (LOL). Looking back on all the episodes I have counted how many times that "The Big Three" (Lockwood, Bianco, Grover) were knocked unconscious during their missions. And the winner is.............Lockwood! Even though Lockwood didn't take any crap, he had more concussions than an NFL quarterback (LOL). Below I have pointed out in each when the Probes were knocked unconscious. Lockwood Probe (Pilot): Knocked out in the basement wine cellar when a shelf of wine bottles is pushed on him. "There goes the Bordoo!" Harold Streeter (Did I spell that right?) Moonrock: Karate kick to the face from Abbas Mirzah. "Those mule kicks were japanese, worse than karate" Kuroda The Bullet: Probe 1 takes a bullet from a sniper, but for once he doesn't get knocked unconscious (LOL) "Green light" The Adonis File: Hit in the face with a wooden board by John Spencer. "Please wake up" Miss Harte Flight to Nowhere: Knocked out for a brief moment in his hotel room by three henchmen..... or was he faking it. "I want this guy to fall a long way" Henchman The Gold Machine: Knocked out in the mountains during a night fight. Suffer My Child: Knocked out by several frog men on a boat who through him overboard to drown. One question, why didn't Probe Control warn him. This one was filmed during the first part of the 72-73 season. Countdown to Panic: Knocked unconscious in the airport by a exploding wall locker set off by commander Parker. Bianco Live Men tell Tales: Omega Probe is grazed by a sniper bullet and wakes in bed with a beautiful women. I wish could be that lucky. Operation Iceman: Briefly knocked unconscious by David Pelham on a boat dock. Search Blooper, notice that when Pelham Karate chops Bianco, he doesn't have his sunglasses on. In the next shot he has them on again. Let us Prey: Drugged by Richter before having his earjack taken out. Ouch! The Twenty-Four Caret Hit: Briefly knocked out by Ed Bain in motel room. The Clayton Lewis Document: Drugged by being smuggled in his own car! Why didn't Probe control warn him! Oh yeah, I forgot this was the slightly revised format part of the series where just about everything that good about the series went out the window. Ends of the Earth: ????????????? Grover Short Circuit: Knocked unconscious buy engine crates pushed from above by Landis in an airport hangar. "uh,ahhhhhhhhh" C.R. Grover The Packagers: Drugged by Karim and his henchmen. Karim is going to throw you off of that airplane without a parachute. V.C.R. Cameron Moment of Madness: Knocked out by Ralph Byron. Harris and Miss James asleep at the wheel again during the second part of the 1972-1973 season (LOL) Well team, that about sums it up. If I missed anything, please fill free to add on. Hi John: Thanks for the reminder on the above. It reminds me that I and others posted a number of attachments to this list a couple of years ago. Have you gathered these items and placed them in a special "attachments" folder in the Files section? Let us know what you want to do with these. At one point I archived the content in the files section, but I am behind in that. We will just have to hope that everyone still has whatever they sent out as attachments. Fortunately, or unfortunately, I have no interesting stories about the blackout. (I say unfortunately because when I saw the videos of the people walking through the subway tunnels to get out I said "Oh man, I wish I had been stuck in one of the tunnels and had to evacuate!" My wife, of course, looked at me like I was nuts. Does anybody here remember the ABC tv-movie A Short Walk To Daylight?) Anyway, power went out around 4:15PM, and we did not get it back until 8:30 the following morning. I know the exact time because I unplugged the fridge so it would not get damaged if the power spiked when it came back, and so I turned on an analog radio in the bedroom so it would come on the second the power did. It did, and I got up and plugged the fridge back in. We were lucky...no food spoilage. We made sure we kept it closed the whole time. We have plenty of batteries, plenty of transistor radios, a battery operated tv, a roof antenna as back up if we can't use the satellite, candles, matches, gas stove, canned goods, flashlights, battery operated book light, and running water. That last was my weakness...cause many in the highrise buildings did not have water. I will be stocking up on water. The more interesting story comes from a friend of mine who lives on the 42nd floor of a rent subsidized artists' building in mid-town. She decided to walk up. Every 10 floors or so, she found that people had put into the stairwells tables, chairs, cups, water, notes saying "Sit down and take a breather" "Knock on door XXX if you can't go any further", etc. One table had a bag with at least 50 batteries in it. My friend was so impressed by this, and so touched. Even before September 11, she has been keeping a survival kit in her apartment, but she messed up in one way: she did not have a pocket flashlight in her purse. That was a problem since long sections of the stairwell had no light. But everytime she was about to give up, she either would see light in the distance, or somebody came along with a light, or called down from an upper floor every so often to make sure nobody needed help. She was going on about how actors are the best, taking care of their own, etc...and though I am an actor, I disagree with her. I think the city as a whole responded this way. I suspect the still fresh memory of September 11th had something to do with it. What I actually have here are the original high-quality scans, not the low-res JPGs I posted to the list back then. I notice the Files section is already getting full, so some of this material may need to be posted along with the news articles on probecontrol.com or in other storage places as you once mentioned, such as fateback.com. Warner Home Video is releasing a lot of series on dvd, including "Babylon 5." Most of these series are released in a one-season package. Now, suppose that they package "Search" with the original tv-movie/ pilot with the remaining episodes. Wouldn't that be great! They could peddle them to us, and at conventions and the like. And, about the same time, what if they released them to "Tech TV," which is showing "Thunderbirds?" What a promotional tie-in. Perhaps I am dreaming. But, I would recommend that we ALL write and e-mail Warner Home Video and make our request. Also, what is the tie-in with Lincoln Enterprises? While I doubt VHS will disappear completely anytime soon, have you noticed how much DVD has taken over in the various video stores and rental places? Some stores are in the process of phasing out a lot of VHS material in favor of DVDs and DVD recorders. If the price of the recorders keeps going down, it will make more sense anyway. I understand DVDs will last much, much longer than VHS tapes, upwards of 50 years and more, plus you can do thousands of plays on one DVD. I spoke to someone who used to work with CNN a few years ago and they said they had to throw out some of their early videotape archive at one point because the tapes had deteriorated quicker than they had anticipated. Some say that videotapes only last between 15 and 20 years or upwards of 100 runs through the player's video heads. Hi John: Thanks for the info. At least the site gave "Probe" three stars. :-) If fans overseas don't have videos of "Search," audios would be acceptable, especially if they are in different languages. It would be something to hear Lockwood and Cameron bantering back and forth in French, German, Portugeuse, or even Farsi. We could always time the audio to our video and have an interesting alternate version of SEARCH, like current DVDs do with most movies. Then again, I have a feeling that the shows were generally sent out with subtitles instead of being re-dubbed into a different language. Maybe one day we will find someone who has answers to that. Then again, with our luck, our first audio in a different language will probably turn out to be "Ends of the Earth." :-) --Don H. 2208 From: "Geoff Willmetts" Date: Sat Aug 30, 2003 10:48pm Subject: Re: Somewhat OT: Tape Brands gfwillmetts Hello everyone Hello Morningstar Question: Every time I've ever tried to do a screen grab from a DVD film frame, all I get is a black picture.
