I piped up and said I was a fan of that show too. As we talked, among other things, the girl told me that episode dubs were available and that she had a specialty tag for her car which said "SEARCH." Hi: After I posted the above message, I remembered that I attended Space Trek in St. Louis in 1984 AND 1986. It was at the 1984 convention where I spoke with Majel Barrett and a fan named Carol at the Lincoln Enterprises table. Also, it was back in 1984 when I found the first AFN tapes of SEARCH, thanks to Carol. If you are the same Carol, you will be happy to know that we have since found ALL of the SEARCH episodes on video, except for "Ends of the Earth." You should be able to format it as a dvd, or as some other form, such as vcd. Some commercial players, including JVC (which I have). Since there are many things that are coming out on dvd (S.W.A.T., Barretta, Charlie's Angels, etc.) and I don't see why "Search" couldn't be one of those. In fact, with a little research, we could help Warner or whomever with the supplemental material, not to mention marketing. As for the videotapes, you can look at the specifications from a number of videophile magazines, but when it comes to money versus quality, the bulk name brands are probably good enough. Videotape was never meant to be permanent, so that is the breaks. It's been a long time since I thought of it, but it was definitely one of my favorites. All my friends were into it, too. We all wore funky clothes like that. And when Lincoln Enterprises started selling Search stuff, I added a bunch of it to my Star Trek collection (unfortunately, all gone now). I found this group, and probecontrol.com, via an indirect route. In the "Invaders" group, someone mentioned a site that had the theme from it. I went to check it out, and it had a lot of themes, including "Search." That jarred my memory: "Wow, I used to love that show!" Now, try doing a search on Google for "Search." It took a while to track you down. I mention a lot of this because the site is removing the TV themes because of copyright issues. It's got a lot of great stuff, so you might want to go download some now: http://www.Lgoldberg.com/ I ordered the pilot from moviesunlimited.com, haven't gotten it yet, but they haven't told me it's not available, so I'm still hoping. I'll post when I get it. I hear they are releasing "Time Tunnel" soon. Much as I love the show, it was really cheesy. Funny, shows like the invaders and search, which are high quality, serious shows, we are having a hard time getting released. But the cheesy ones are being released left and right. I registered at TVShowsonDVD.com and voted for Search. I don't know if the studios pay attention to that, but it couldn't hurt. BTW, my favorite was Doug McClure. I think cause he was young and blond, so I could relate more. (I'm still blonde, no longer young ;-(. Looking forward to hearing more about Search. Mike Philadelphia, PA 2220 From: yorktowncmdr@... The Persuaders TV series went the same way. It was put up against Mission:Impossible ironically when MI was in the weaker seasons towards the end of its run so never got picked up for a second season. It was a huge success here in the UK. The series, as far as I know, has never been shown since its original airing. The pilot film, Probe, is usually shown once a year. Those UK TV listings take me back. The US have taken two of our inventions, the sandwich and bed and breakfast, and turned them into an art form. Although when staying in B&B in the States, most of them don't have air con either. Cars generally have air con as standard now but this will up your fuel costs if you use it. Remember gas is about $4.50 per US gallon (0.8 of a UK gallon). Though it is expensive, I've noticed that US cars are much less efficient and poorly built compared to their european counterparts and also that american need to drive a lot more so i think it all probably evens out. If you're in London the best way to travel is by public transport anyway. Most of the major chain hotels over here would have air con but its not really needed that often. However if you really want the pits try some of the hotels in some mediterranean resorts in europe. Just appalling. Americans would never stand for them. Are they still recording it on SP speed, or is it now recorded in a substandard LP or SLP speed? I don't doubt what you're saying at ALL. I'm just wondering if the copies are suffering from age (sitting in the warehouse after probably being produced YEARS ago)? Hmmmmmmmmm. I will check the manufacturer when I get home, perhaps a cheaper manufacturer took over? I will also check the recording speed. Thanks for the info. I had a bit of distortion at times with my copy while watching it on a SONY VCR. I watched my copy for the first time after finally receiving it in February. I had quite a wait as I mentioned back then in message # 1911. I watched the pilot episode again last week on a GO-VIDEO dual deck VCR that has Automatic Tracking. This time the tape displayed reasonably well throughout. Maybe the automatic tracking makes the difference in terms of viewing quality. I am also mentioning the GO-VIDEO dual deck VCR for another reason I am preparing to copy the pilot episode for a friend of mine who is really excited about Search. I mentioned a few months ago that he might join the group, but he never took me up on my suggestion. But he was over my house last weekend, and we watched `Countdown to Panic'. Needless to say he was reeeeeeaaaalllly excited seeing Search again after 30 years. I don't know if anyone has any experience with a GO-VIDEO dual deck VCR, but I am trying to do some amateur copying and virtual splicing using the VCR, and I am having a little difficulty with the splicing. My impetus to do some splicing was prompted by the absence of the phone call scene between Lockwood, Cameron, and Dr. Laurent that whould have appeared right after the introductory credits rolled in the beginning of the show. I noticed the absence immediately because I reviewed my Search pilot recorded many years ago off local TV prior to watching the Unicorn tape for the first time back in February. Now I would like to be able to seamlessly copy the scene back when I copy the Unicorn tape for both my friend and myself. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Franklin 2242 From: pdcsnr@... I have one but only one side is working right now. A few weeks ago, I was made aware of a UK commercial that was a keen spoof on the old Irwin Allen LAND OF THE GIANTS series. I'd LOVE to see it. Is there any possibility that any of you good fellows might have it on tape? Here is the letter in which I first found out about its existence, dated a little over two months ago: British fans of Land of the GIANTS should keep an eye on the commercial breaks between programmes... I was just watching a show on Channel 4, when during a commercial break, an advertisement spoofing Land of the GIANTS appeared on my screen. The ad is for the new Polo car and features a group of little people in a giant house, being chased by a giant cat. Some of the little people are wearing Spindrift crew uniforms and one little woman is dressed in Val's clothes. To escape the cat, "Val" leaps in a tiny toy model of a Polo and drives it to the letter box through which she escapes. This is all done to a theme tune very like LOTG incidental music. It was wonderful - now I'll have to record every ad break in the hopes of getting it on tape! If you ARE able to supply, I would be happy to trade any movie or TV show of your choosing from my collection (on NTSC, if you're able to play that). Or, I can pay you for your time and materials. I'd prefer the commercial in NTSC, but I can covert it with assistance from SEARCH group members. Any assistance would be appreciated, and I thank you in advance for your time-- Jim Alexander probecontrol@... It is Unicorn Video, like Franklin said, and is at SP, so I don't think anything's changed. The box isn't faded, just a big blow up of a low res video grab, so doesn't look so good. My VCR does have auto-tracking, and is a relatively new JVC SVHS. The Unicorn Video Presents intro looks pretty cheap, and it's not too uncommon for me to have to override the autotracking on cheap tapes (for this and previous machines). The phone conversation scene is not in it, good luck dubbing. Aside from tracking, the outdoor scenes (mainly blue and green) look ok, more video noise than usual. The probe control scenes, which are heavily red, are awful. Video tape inherently has problems with red, these are magnified greatly. What I'm going to do is call Movies Unlimited (which is in my hometown, as it turns out), and see if they are willing to order me another copy (I'll explain the information you've all given me--thanks). Then we'll see if this is one bad tape, or it's the end of the road for anything produced on the cheap. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the help.
