I'm going to guess either "Hang em High," > or "Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold." :-) Hi Jim and Marta: Thanks for taking a stab at the music question, it is much appreciated. :=) Actually, with Dominic Frontiere it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly where a piece of background music first appeared. Fuel, one of the satellite channels, ran this past weekend the modest 1971 independent film "On Any Sunday," and Frontiere did the background music. I managed to only get about 75% of the movie on video, but familiar bits of music appeared here and there. The film is devoted to motorcycles and part of it focuses on Steve McQueen, who apparently helped finance the film. Anyway, the music I posted to our list was one of the few pieces which ran without any narration. It appeared in the SEARCH episode "The Gold Machine," the scene in which Lockwood regains his hearing while dancing with Gloria in San Francisco. It also appeared dimly in the background in "Flight to Nowhere" when Lockwood meets Antonia Bravo for dinner, where she denies that she had her men try to kill him. Two other pieces of "Search" music appeared in "On Any Sunday," but they have a constant narration over them. One was the "party music" that played in "The Adonis File" when Lockwood speaks with Ms. Delaware and she knocks Lockwood's drink out of his hand. The other was a portion of the jazzy "chase music" that played early in "The Mattson Papers" when Mattson escaped from the two guys who were following him. There is a soundtrack CD for "On Any Sunday," which would have all the music without narration, but I believe it is out of print. It would be one way of getting a collection of other "Search music" beyond the pilot theme. I've tried bidding for these on eBay, but I always get outbid. These CDs are sought after, and go for high prices. Internet Movie Database "On Any Sunday": http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0067527/ --Don H. 2467 From: yorktowncmdr@... David 2476 From: "dghprobe3" Date: Sat Feb 21, 2004 7:20am Subject: 2-18-04 Judy Burns Chat Summary dghprobe3 On Feb. 18, 2004, I participated in a portion of Judy Burns' online scriptwriting class. Posted to our Files section is the transcript of the section of the chat which pertains to SEARCH. Go to Files section http://groups.yahoo.com/group/probe_control/files/ Open folder "SEARCH Articles by Don Harden," then click on "040218_JudyChat01.htm" To summarize what was discussed: While it was Bob Justman who called Judy to come in and pitch freelance story ideas to SEARCH, she mainly dealt with Anthony Spinner for both of her scripts, "The Bullet" and "Countdown to Panic." She described Tony as "tall, sharp, addicted I think... to horses." She mentioned that she only met Leslie Stevens in passing. She mentioned that she had met Burgess Meredith at an earlier time, when she was in college. Judy recalled that she did visit the location shooting on one day for each of her episodes. With "The Bullet," it was Lockwood's "slide for life" escape scene where he goes over the wall with the girl. She said she knew Ina Balin and that actress Dana Wynter was with her during filming of Lockwood's escape scene. With "Countdown to Panic," she was there for the filming of the Columbia Ranch neighborhood scenes of Anne Francis' house, plus the night shooting of the bridge where Ed Nelson fell into the water. She said she had met Ed Nelson, Anne Francis, Robert Webber, and Howard Duff. Judy mentioned that what the Search team liked about her idea for "The Bullet" was the travel sticker on the suitcase. The idea was like "Charade," where money was hidden in a stamp, but her idea was for a formula to be smuggled out of a country. She added that she had seen many travel stickers, and "I thought what if we took an actual atomic 'formula'... what would it look like if you could string it out for a chemist... and miniaturize it. And make it the decoration around the stamp. Once there was a stamp... we needed a reason for it. And that meant a scientist in trouble somewhere... with a formula that he needed to get out... and baddies who wanted to use it for 'evil.'" She added that Hugh O'Brian wanted to do the slide for life scene himself, but she didn't think they let him do it. While her transcript statement is not terribly clear on this point, she mentioned that it was two stunt men who did the slide for life. She said, "a man actually played the woman's role... A small woman." She added that it took all day for them to set up that shot. I asked her about the Probe Control set change, from a dark set to a brightly lit set. She replied, "I probably noticed, but if it made a difference in the script, then they may have told me they had more capability. Other than that, I don't know." She never visited the Probe sets. Unfortunately, Judy wasn't able to provide much more information. But so far, she is the only other one we have contacted, besides Adam's contact with Angel Tompkins, and Jim's meeting with Hugh O'Brian at a HOBY event, who has been open to answering questions about the show. Anyway, I will be sending her a better copy of "The Bullet" and "Countdown to Panic" soon. And I will join Judy and her students one more time on March 3rd. So any follow up questions can be asked at that time. If any SEARCH list members have questions they would like to add, please send them to the list and I will use them. I hope everyone enjoys reading over the transcript. :-) --Don H. http://f3.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/8AE3QDc1TIR7k6IiB8fc_QsQZxRdFjfx5jW41fyx_ f6mTJvj5lQsU5O6HSDhaidlwUFAZISJ09dLyPd1HzhyHIeZ_0pV4_Y/SEARCH% 20Articles%20by%20Don%20Harden/040218_JudyChat01.htm 2477 From: "dghprobe3" Date: Sun Feb 22, 2004 7:14am Subject: SEARCH fans in France dghprobe3 http://www.seriesmax.com/postp1436.html Above links to a French site discussing "Probe/Search." Since SEARCH is an old Warner series, we may have better luck getting TNT to run it, as opposed to hoping that the Mystery Channel might one day run it. While Mystery ran "Name of the Game" back in 1998, they only ran half the episodes, and "Game" was a Universal series, not Warners. The WB is another choice, but they specialize in new shows. TNT runs a mixture of old and new movies, along with old and new TV reruns. Many of the shows and movies are Warner Bros. productions. So TNT makes a lot of sense to me right now. Below is TNT's contact information. With some 160 list members, I think if everyone sent a letter over the next few months to TNT explaining why you would like to see them run the 1972-73 SEARCH series with Hugh O'Brian, they might take a look at it. My friend, Chris said that he had seen the Search TV show episodes on the Sci-Fi Channel series collection back in the early 90's. He told me he remembered watching Burgess Meredith at the Control Center and some of the episodes which I find hard to believe. But he had confirmed my doubts when I showed him the probecontrol website and this is what he had seen on the Sci-Fi channel. You could even call him up on this matter and he will tell you the same thing that i had discussed with him. Oh well, that's life. 2488 From: Nic Olinsky Date: Fri Feb 27, 2004 11:51pm Subject: Re: Video List tutru I knew I wasn't alone! I remember episodes of Search on SCI-FI in the 93-94 time frame. They were shown as part of a series that ran little known, or quickly cancelled sci-fi tv shows. I remember Search was shown as well as Fantastic Journey, and The Man from Atlantis. Hi: Earlier on this list, I believe someone mentioned that SEARCH had been shown on the Sci-Fi Channel sometime in the last ten years. Upon further investigation, it was found instead to have been Parker Stephenson's "Probe" series of 1988. But anything is possible. It's more likely that it was an airing of the "Search" version of the "Probe" pilot, as it seems the "overseas only" designation for the series would have been in effect during 1993-94. Can anyone confirm which episodes may have been run? It would be interesting one day to run across a tape of a Sci-Fi airing of SEARCH, if indeed it did run there. 2490 From: yorktowncmdr@... Although my cable provider didn't support SciFi, I was watching closely for the hope of acquiring shortlived series such as SEARCH. I was able to collect many, but SEARCH did not air on SciFi. When I saw Probe, it was only the shortlived Parker Stevenson series. 2491 From: dmanmetz@... Date: Sun Feb 29, 2004 3:31pm Subject: Re: Video List dmanmetz@... I agree with you also, because I recalled that the sci-fi channel was brand new and there a show that rotated all of the short lived sci-fi shows around 8 or 9 o'clock. I rememebered how shocked I was to see Gemeni Man(which lasted about 6 episodes in 1976), The Invisible Man (1975) with David McCallan of The Man From Uncle, The Magician (1973) with Bill Bixby, Beyond Westworld (1980), Probe (1988) with Parker Stevenson, The Imortal (1970)with Christopher George, Fantastic Journey (1977), and there were few more that I can't recall. When I saw that the sci-fi channel was showing these shows with low volume episodes I knew Search was a shoe in and that it was only a matter of time for it to show up,and believe me I watched close, as these shows were repeated a number of times and Search never showed up! I was crushed. But here is one thing that may have happened. I don't know if anyone rememebrs the live action Saturday Morning Show Ark II (1976). I received bootleg copies from off the internet and they were taped episodes from the sci-fi channel in another country. So, it's possible that maybe Search aired in a foreign country on Sci-fi, but I know it didn't air in the states. Chris
