It just came out over here and I was shocked that it got a release, but couldn't wait to get it. I'd recommend it to anyone, because it's a great deal of fun to watch, and quirky enough that you can't figure out where the story is going. A hack can be as difficult as chainging firmware or chips, or as simple as learning the secret remote code that let's you change the region settings. That is why our Sampo codes are under the heading of "hacks" at www.videohelp.com . In the U.S. players are sold as region one players. Companies cannot openly sell machines here as region-free. Powerful industry forces come down on them if they do. Some retailers will flip off the forces and openly sell machines that have the secret codes, and will provide the codes with the machines. But even then the machines come set for region one...and not for region zero. I'd try: "probe vhs o'brian", David If you were feeling frisky, you could try and add other words like "unicorn", "tv" or "movie." Good luck-- Jim Alexander 3316 From: "Geoff Willmetts" Date: Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:42pm Subject: Re: focal length gfwillmetts Hello Stephen Russell Although I believed back in 1972 that mini-camera scanners were a possibility, to put a camera on a contact lens is a definite no-no. Just getting the focal lengths and lighting worked out would be bad enough let alone the power source. Check out Martin Caiden's original novel of 'Cyborg', the basis for 'The Six Million Dollar Man'. Austin's first replacement eye was purely a prosthetic carrying a tiny camera and I doubt if anything smaller could be done today comparable in digital. Even his bionic eye was pushing things a little although the one used in G’Kar in Babylon 5 was probably closed to how it would be done by putting an input jack into the socket first so the eyeball was detachable. If you want to do a war on terrorism, it's better to have better groundfloor intelligence with people on the ground. Even with 'Search' and having a team watching your every move over the scanner did not save the Probes when they got into trouble. Hello Cat The McCallum Invisible Man was the original streaker (it was never established whether the British Invisible Man TV series of the late 50s shed all his clothes) on the box but it did limit where he could go. No snow or heavy rain missions spring to mind. Probably why they thought doing 'The Gemini Man' where he could keep his clothes would look better except that it doesn't explain why his attire would become invisible as well. Looks like you're still behind on the Search messages. My DVD recorder is region free. Just pixilates when some US publishers used DVD9s for proper releases. The Persuaders is out on DVD in the UK. Rumour has it 'The Return Of The Saint' is supposed to be released as well although they haven't rushed to release Roger Moore's second series of 'The Saint' yet so might be a reflection of sales. You didn't say whether you were into 'Danger Man' or not going through the UK series?? Most multi-regional DVD players or recorders have the hack or not even widely disclosed. I knew that the computer LG DVD recorder could take most things so figured their players could as well before verifying. The odd thing was the info how to put the hack code - hardly rocket science - wasn't even needed. The recorder itself recognised whether or not what region the DVD was sourced from in the first place. Hello John Nice valid comments about the regional DVDs. I think the reason why the manufacturers are a tad pissed is that this restriction was put on them without their input and if they have to make all their machines region specific adds to their overall expense so few do it and just covered their backs with a code limitation. Ultimately, this region stuff will be resolved as being totally invalid simply because it isn’t enforceable. I’d love to see someone argue the case in law. Region 1 or US format isn't regarded as the best reception in the world simply cos its designed for US style TV screen lines. Ours are a lot finer on this side of the pond which neatly answers another part of my multi-part answer as to why I'm so reluctant to hunt down Region 1 DVDs. To be truthful, when I reviewed the US release of 'Alien Abduction' last month on SFC, I couldn't tell much difference in picture quality but then again, I didn't have to run it through a US television to see the differences neither. He was 96. Born Aug. 8, 1908, in Mountain Home, Idaho, he grew up in the Pacific Northeast. As a young man, he took the sort of jobs associated with that then-rustic area, including stints as a logger, fisherman, carpenter, clam digger and oil tanker roustabout. Moving east to pursue his acting career, he joined the Michael Chekhov Theatre Studio in Connecticut and, in 1939, made his Broadway debut with a small role in the Chekhov production of The Possessed. His next visit to Broadway with the Chekhov troupe brought him a far larger part: Sir Toby Belch in Twelfth Night. His biggest Broadway assignments came in the late 50's. He understudied Frederic March as James Tyrone in the original 1956 Broadway production of O'Neill's masterwork Long Day's Journey Into Night. Two years later, he acted in the premiere of Archibald MacLeish's J.B., later succeeding Pat Hingle in the title role. Mr. Rainey's exhaustive and unbroken television career began in 1952 with an appearance on something called "Cowboy G-Men" and concluded with a series of guest appearances on the sitcom "The King of Queens." In between, he acted on such famous programs as "U.S. Steel Hour," "Kraft Television Theater," "Bonanza," "Rawhide," "The Waltons," "Mannix," "Perry Mason," "Daniel Boone," "The Outer Limits," "The Fugitive," "Get Smart," "Gunsmoke," "The Rockford Files," "M*A*S*H" and "Wiseguy." He often portrayed Abraham Lincoln and played fictional Commanders-in-Chief as well, including "The President" in the pilot episode for "Lost in Space," and 'President McNeil' on "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea." He was a regular on "The Richard Boone Show" and "Window on Main Street." His film credits included "White Heat," "The Parallax View" and "The Sand Pebbles." Despite his success on the small and large screens, Ford Rainey never lost touch with the theatre. Following service in World War II, he helped found The Ojai Valley Players in California. The odd collective cultivated an active farm during the day, and presented plays at night. He acted in The Crucible at the Ahmanson Theatre in 1972 and Buried Child at Trinity Repertory Theatre in 1979. At the age of 90, he returned to The Crucible at Theatricum Botanicum, the Topanga, California theatre founded by his friend, Will Geer. In what spare time that was left to him after his numerous acting jobs, Ford Rainey took up innumerable hobbies and interests. According to the L.A. Times, he dabbled in guitar, piano, building solar heaters, tending beehives, horseriding, fencing and breeding budgerigars, a species of bird similar to the parakeet. He won a series of trophies and ribbons entering the birds in contests throughout southern California. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sheila Hayden Rainey. A public memorial is being planned. 3325 From: "Robert J. I just discovered this message board. I saw several eposides of Search as a 13 year old when it originally aired and fell in love with it. Years later I enjoyed it again when it was rerun, or at least the pilot "Probe" was. I noticed that Amazon does not show the pilot or any of the episodes of Search available on VHS or DVD. Is that correct? With every old TV show in the world being mined for the $1.00-$4.99 DVD shelves at Wal Mart and the like I am surprised it is not available yet. 3328 From: yorktowncmdr@...
