It's a very beautiful piece of work! Jim #4223 From: "Robert J. Sawyer" Date: Tue Jan 2, 2007 4:22 am Subject: Kuroda's first name Is there any canonical (on-air) reference to the first name of the character Kuroda (the Probe Control technician played by Byron Chung)? The pilot script gives his full name as "Shu Shu Kuroda," as you can see here: http://probecontrol.com/Scripts/Probe.txt But that name wasn't actually used in the pilot as aired. We learned so little about the Probe Control staff (although we did glean a little about Cameron and Gloria) that I doubt we ever did hear Kuroda's first name, but if we did, I'm sure someone here will remember. (By the way, the same pilot script tells us that Carlos is that character's FIRST name; his last name is given as Lobos; Keach gets no first name, nor does Griffin, although he's called "Dr. Griffin" by Lockwood at one point.) I'm curious because I'm naming a computer-imaging specialist in the novel I'm currently writing "Kuroda," in homage to SEARCH, and if there was a first name used in one of the episodes, I might use it. The first thought is to say that it is as official as it it going to get since it is from Leslie Steven's own script. But then again there are some scripts that refer to O'Brien's character as "John Lockwood" (including Murrow if I remember correctly.) And the ID badge that O'Brien wore on set says "John Lockwood", with a date of Nov 1972...so go figure. It would be interesting to know if that badge was used in the pilot...maybe they had intended the show to be set a bit in the future. On 1/1/07, Robert J. Love interest in any series does one of several things. Eye candy and fantasy for both sexes and romance is always a good demographic for drawing ladies in. If you can cover all bases, then its good for keeping a show on. Oddly enough, it doesn't get that clichéd. You think with something like 'Knight Rider' that Michael Knight had a girl every episode when in fact its probably less than 1 in 5. Are you copying the large individual images? And not the thumbnails? The problem, of course, is that for screen display you do not need large resolution...which is good since you need really small file sizes for web site display transmission. And depending on what you wish to do, you would need to color correct the images as best as you can to do away with the red aging. Some day when I am put away in a home and am not looking for my teeth I might have the time to color correct them. Which might be sometime in the next few days the way it is going... Kinda destroys the whole purpose behind so- called "remastering," doesn't it? Especially when these things used to show up now and then in past syndication. When DVDs first came on the scene, the big selling point was that you could get more onto a DVD than a VHS tape, which led to numerous "extras" added to the DVD sets. Nowadays we're more apt to get simply bare bones episodes, or (surprisingly) edited syndicated versions of episodes, than anything else. It would be nice if we could see the episodes as they originally aired on network but this is rare. In some cases the only way to *really* do that is to find collectors who have dubbed 16mm o/c prints to video, such as the case with our o/c version of the SEARCH ep "Let Us Prey." Funny how the Sci-Fi Channel was always strapped for time and would cut their shows to shreds, yet even THEY ran those opening "In Color" bumpers for "The Time Tunnel." No rhyme or reason here. BTW, I see someone else added a "Bewitched" open to your "ABC In Color" folder in YouTube... --------------------------- --- In probe_control@yahoogroups.com, "actingman_jc" wrote: > ...drives me nuts when they don't include these on the DVD releases. > Even if they don't include them on every episode, it is still nice to > have at least one in the collection. > > Watching Time Tunnel does not seem complete without hearing the > fanfare and seeing the animation... #4246 From: actingman6@... Cutting to the chase Mitch, as we may have already discussed before, the biggest problem was probably the day and time. Wed. at 10PM. In 1972, all of this technology was probably not very believable to most adults and kids were asleep by that time. Even though the "BIG THREE"; Hugh O'Brain, Tony Franciosa, and Doug McClure were house hold names back in 1972, the show probably should have been on at 8PM or 9PM. Or even better, Friday or Saturday nights when kids would be watching. Also, based some of the other comments, I don't think the show was an complete bomb, because it made it through the whole season. Among it's competition, Search help terminate The Julie Andrews Show, who was a huge star in 1972. However, I don't know how much damage Owen Marshall: Counselor at Law did when it replaced the Julie Andrews show in Jan 1973. And of course their was Probe's number one enemy: FRANK CANNON! A show that was in the Top 10 during the 1972-1973 season. Something else to point out was that Adam 12 was the lead show for NBC on Wed nights followed The NBC Wednesday Mystery movie, which was another wheel format that was not as popular Sunday Mystery movie. I think there may have been to much police/ detective shows for one night on NBC. I don't think Search did alright in the ratings (still answer we are looking for) but I don't think it had the numbers NBC was looking for. Plus Leslie Steven quit, and the show was re-format ed (never a good idea). Bonus question? Has anyone ever known of a show to survive after it has been reformat? With all of these problems and the show was not in the top 25 for the Nielsen ratings, I guess NBC decided Search was not worth bringing back for 1973-1974 fall line up. The real question out of this is was 'Search' the first show to use this kind of title variant or are there earlier shows who came first?? Come to that, have there been any since and how the hell can we use a search engine to find out?? One other thing to ponder on is some of the technology behind Steve Austin’s bionic eye. Telephoto zoom. Infra-red. Compact size. You almost get the feeling that some of this stuff was bought in from World Securities.
