Unused Scene From
"The Murrow Disappearance"Mixed with the Lincoln Enterprises SEARCH filmclips have been these scenes:
I never knew what episode these scenes could have been from until Actingman posted his scan of the script for "The Murrow Disappearance," written by executive producer Leslie Stevens. This is the hospital scene of Adele Murrow with Dr. Berens. These scenes were intended to appear on the Probe Control viewing screen.
According to the TV Guide listing for this episode, a credit was given for Adele Murrow, who was played by Jay MacIntosh, but they gave no listing for Dr. Berens. (List member Marta Dawes has identified him as veteran character actor Richard Stahl, who has appeared in many comedy shows over the years, including "WKRP in Cincinnati" and "The Odd Couple.")
All we ended up seeing of Adele in the final episode was the quick "ID Positive" shot of her on a stretcher outside the burning hotel near the start of the briefing tapes.
So you can see what was in this scene and where it appeared in the episode, here is a quote from the script as posted on the probecontrol.com website:
CAMERON
...They taped her statement at the
hospital. Keach, retrieval and
display of Mrs. Murrow's confession.
(to Lockwood)
It wasn't admissable because she
was partially under sedation and
counsel was not present.
KEACH
Package up.
CAMERON
Run, please.
5 PROBE SCREEN
Extreme CLOSE UP of ADELE MURROW against hospital
pillow. A plastic tube is taped into her nostril. Her
hair is pulled back. She speaks in a hoarse whisper;
anguished. A doctor, BERENS, draws her out.
BERENS
You registered at the hotel. Do
you remember the room number?
ADELE
701.
BERENS
Will you repeat what you told me?
What you did in room 701?
ADELE
I poured lighter fluid on the
carpet, the bedspread, curtains...
BERENS
Then what did you do?
ADELE
I set it on fire.
BERENS
You deliberately set fire to the
room?
ADELE
Yes.
BERENS
Why?
ADELE
I wanted to die.
BERENS
You knew the fire would spread.
ADELE
Yes.
BERENS
You wanted to destroy the hotel?
ADELE
I found a key in my husband's
coat pocket. I asked him about
it, and he told me. He stayed
there.
BERENS
With another woman?
ADELE
Yes.
BERENS
Mrs. Murrow, where is your
husband at this time?
ADELE
I don't know. He left me.
That's all I know. He's gone.
Pulse tones and flasher: END RUN
6 PROBE CONTROL
LOCKWOOD turns to Cameron. His voice is terse.
LOCKWOOD
Any deaths in the fire?
CAMERON
No. The alarm saved them...
